Prosecutor’s Office calls for investigation into alleged theft of equipment at the Student Cultural Center

The Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade has announced that it has given an order to the First Instance Public Prosecutor’s Office to form a case regarding the alleged misappropriation of property from the Student Cultural Center.

According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office website, in response to multiple media reports concerning the alleged misappropriation of high-value property owned by the Student Cultural Center (SKC), the Higher Public Prosecutor’s office has given an order to the First Instance Public Prosecutor’s Office to open a case, check given media claims, and identify the perpetrators.

The announcement states: “The order was given with the goal of prosecuting the criminal offense of Aggravated Theft under Article 204, Paragraph 4 of the Criminal Code, which carries a prison sentence of 2 to 10 years, as well as the offense of Damage or Destruction of Another’s Property under Article 212 of the Criminal Code. Moreover, the Special Department for Combating Corruption of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade will open a case to determine whether the key elements of the criminal offense of Abuse of Official Position under Article 359 of the Criminal Code are present, with regard to responsible individuals – employees of the Student Cultural Center who allegedly allowed for the aforementioned crimes to happen.”

As a reminder, yesterday the acting director of SKC entered the premises of the blocked SKC alongside the police, and according to the students present, reporters from the pro-regime news outlet Informer arrived with them.
