Some of the students’ belongings have been thrown out by the faculty admin, while for the other belongings they have a 4pm deadline to take them out themselves. As stated by the blockading students for N1 television, the things currently on the street were mostly donated by citizens.
Draškić Vićanović also gave a statement to N1, saying that the reason for this decision is the entrance exam which will take place at the faculty four days from now.
“Students had some sort of a total blockade and the building was, to put it mildly, very messy. We need at least four days to tidy up the building, to check its security, we will have a thousand freshmen coming to take the entrance exam. It’s about time for sleeping at the Philology faculty building to stop and there’s also no longer a need for that”, she said.
She added that it has been voted for classes to restart, that in other faculties where it was also voted for classes to continue the students left the buildings themselves, and so they need to free up the classrooms so no one continues sleeping at the faculty.
“I was hoping that the students will be smart enough and fair enough towards the institution and their future colleagues to come to this understanding on their own. In most faculties, the students tidied up the buildings themselves, took out their stuff on their own, wished good luck to the incoming freshmen and invited them to come and join them in studying and working. I was expecting the same from the Philology Faculty, but as it didn’t happen, we have to start tidying up the building today”, she stated for N1.
On the other hand, Philology Faculty students have confirmed the dean’s words for Mašina, that is, confirmed that they were told that they are preparing the building for holding entrance exams.
The students have, as a response to this move, announced a protest in front of the faculty building, which should start at 3pm, and invited citizens who are able to join them.
