Following the series of mass protests in Užice elicited by the arrest of seven activists that attempted to block the highway to Zlatibor last week, the court granted the appeals and they were released from custody. The seven activists in question are Radovan Novaković, Pavle Cicvarić, Branko Nikolić, Aleksa Nikolić, Dejan Ćosić, Vladan Sinđić, and Marko Radovanović.
They were charged with the criminal offense of “attack on an official” during the breaking of the police cordon on the first day of the highway blockade. Two more people from Užice who were arrested a day later are still in custody and the decision on their appeals is still pending.
”The opinion of the Chamber is that there is no reason for determining custody, so it was ordered that the defendants be released immediately. The decision has been delivered to the prison, now it is a technical question of when they will be released, because not everyone can go at once, not until they sign certain documents”, said the lawyer of the previously detained activists Mirko Filipović, reports N1.
As a reminder, after determining 30 days of custody for the arrested, citizens of Užice, but also of other cities, organized mass protests and highway blockades.
